Foundation Zorgfuik collects experiences from people stuck between healthcare, municipalities, mental health services, insurance and waiting lists โ not to assign blame, but to identify patterns and advocate for independent coordination with mandate.
The Dutch word fuik means a fish trap โ a cage you can easily enter but cannot leave. A zorgfuik is a situation in which someone becomes trapped in the healthcare and social welfare system through an accumulation of institutional failures, not through any single mistake.
People approach GPs, municipalities, mental health services, insurance companies, and social services โ each with their own waiting lists, forms and criteria.
Without a single coordinator who holds the overview and the mandate, people are passed from one institution to the next โ indefinitely.
While waiting, situations often worsen. What starts as a manageable problem becomes a crisis. The system was not designed to prevent this.
"We are not looking for culprits. We are looking for patterns."
The Foundation is developing a pilot to test whether an independent coordination table can break through complex stuck situations faster and more humanely. Starting in the Utrecht region, the Netherlands.
